Full Crate - Golden Glasses EP

New material from Dutch producer Full Crate. The Golden Glasses EP was released yesterday and is the first music we've recieved in quite some time. For us it all started with the beautiful Full Crate & Mar EP and Hi-hat Club Vol.5. Since then he has worked with artists like Eric Roberson, AB (Black Milk), Ntjam Rosie, Daru Jones, Jesse Boykins III and others.

This EP continues his quest to put out soulful beats with inspirations from artists like A Tribe Called Quest and DJ Spinna to Carl Craig and Mark De Clive-Lowe. Our pick of the EP is Cherrie Hats ft. Chris Turner but the release is quality all the way. Listen below and pick up your copy over at Juno.

Nas - Nasty

"I’m not in the winters of my life or the beginner stage, I am the dragon Maserati, pumpin’ Biggie, the great legend Blastin’, I’m after the actress who played Faith Evans My little Jackie Onassis, dig?"

The other day Nas dropped the first video off his upcoming album Life is good. The track is called Nasty and is produced by long time collaborator Salaam Remi. For Nas he has produced tunes like I can, Get down, Made you look and many others. It's great to hear Nas rhyming over a dirty breakbeat again. The video kind of reminds us of the feeling when Biggie's Juicy dropped and it was just what we were hoping for after remaniscing to Elzhi's Elmatic project all summer. Let's just hope the album follow that same boots-on-the-concrete-street-corner-vibe we came to know Nas for.

The Roots - Make my (album preview)

Earlier today The Roots announced the release of their new LP undun. Due for release on December 6th the album is a sort of novel in audio form. undun is what they describe as “an existential re-telling of the short life of one Redford Stephens (1974-1999)".

Ahmir ?uestlove Thompson:

“At this point in our career we’d like for our work to have a unifying theme, and an experiential quality. We’ve been intentionally making our albums shorter in length so that they can be experienced as a continuous work. The music is band-oriented with an eye on the moody cinematic. As a DJ, I am the King of playlists, but I don’t want our albums to feel like a playlist or a mixtape for that matter. We want to tell stories that work within the album format and we want the stories to be nuanced and useful to people. Undun is the story of this kid who becomes criminal, but he wasn’t born criminal. He’s not the nouveau exotic primitive bug-eyed gunrunner like Tupac’s character Bishop in Juice… he’s actually thoughtful and is neither victim nor hero. Just some kid who begins to order his world in a way that makes the most sense to him at a given moment… At the end of the day… isn’t that what we all do?”

The first track leaked off the album is the beautiful Make my featuring Mississippi emcee and Def Jam label mate Big K.R.I.T. In our headphones Make my sounds like part 2 or an older brother to The Day track from last year. Definitely rises our expectations for the album as whole. Check it below.

Martyn - Ghost people

"I wish I could drag a tune in the trash can and then take it out and it would be dirtier"
(Martyn via Twitter July 6th 2011)

Beathearts rewind #28 of Deep Dish earlier today reminded us of new material from another Washington DC resident. The new album from Martyn dropped this week. Dutch DJ and producer Martijn Deykers lives in a DC suburb since a couple of years back. His first album Great Lengths (2009) was a great success and frequently supported by people like Benji-B and Gilles Peterson.

Martyn's music is another great example of what happens when producers go the extra mile and pick up influences from different genres. In a recent interview on BBC Martyn listed some of the artists that influenced him:

Download: Talking Heads — I Zimbra (Ney re-edit)

Download: Waajeed — Tron (People re-edit)

Download: Games — Strawberry Skies (re-edit)

Maya Jane Coles — The High Life

Slum Village — Disco

If you want learn more about Martyn's inspirations check his recent Resident Advisor interview.

Our picks from the new album are Twice as, Pop Gun and We are you in the future. The Ghost People album is available now in all formats via Boomkat.
